JACKSON HOLE DOG TROT

A dog trot is a traditional form of building where two enclosed living areas are connected by a central breezeway (the dog trot) and all spaces are contained under one roof. Our clients brought this concept to us along with their request for a modest event venue which could be used as a guesthouse and as a larger gathering area. By having both indoor and outdoor spaces, the flexibility of use for themselves, their families, and friends is fantastic.

Kurt Dubbe, designed this dog trot which was created as a timber frame building with plank siding and a river rock base around the building perimeter, providing a nod to the vernacular materials available in the valley. The roof is similarly traditional with a class B fire retardant wood shake cedar shingle and copper treatment at the center section.

The result is a finely crafted, relatively modest in scale structure with a great room, a covered outdoor gathering space in the middle, and an ARU on the opposite end.

TETON VALLEY EVENT BARN

We’ve shared this project as it has progressed from a 3D model, to a project under construction, and now as a finished event venue.  Designed by Chris Moulder, this barn was inaugurated at the owner’s 60th birthday party. Guests easily connect to the stunning landscape: a glass wall provides near views over a man-made pond and distant views to the mountains surrounding Teton Valley. The building features a double-sided fireplace and sliding barn doors on both sides that allow guests to move freely from indoors to outdoors. The ambiance created by the open and airy building ensures a stellar event.

DMA FALL CONFERENCE

DMA holds a Fall Conference every October when we have staff from our Jackson and Driggs offices and our remote employees meet together. It is a great time to review important items such as our CAD drafting standards, building codes, any changing permit requirements and share experiences from the projects we’ve been working on. 

Our conference time also gives us the opportunity to go on field trips to visit projects under construction or ones that have been recently completed. This gives our team the chance to see projects as they are bring constructed, ask questions about construction, and see examples of building details. Kurt and Chris’s mantra is that an understanding of construction is the key to designing an efficient and cost-effective structure.

Our staff is experienced in designing projects using a variety of building technologies and our designs utilize standard building modules to minimize material waste. Our understanding of construction allows DMA to confer with consulting engineers and create construction documents that are easily read and understood by construction professionals in the field.
