While it is currently snowing outside the window, Jackson Hole enjoyed a beautiful and surprisingly warm fall. The change of seasons is always a delight. PRIVATE EVENT VENUES

As an architecture firm, we find it both enjoyable and challenging to design structures that are a bit unconventional. Jackson Hole is a unique and stunning location that many people want to share with their family and friends. We have had the pleasure of assisting clients in creating indoor-outdoor private event venues on their properties. Designing spaces for family reunions, weddings and  gatherings is an inspiring endeavor. We would like to showcase a couple of these spaces for your inspiration.

This project evolved from the design of a simple barn for storing vehicles, tools, and toys into a versatile event venue. The clients aimed to create a special space for various occasions and family events. Principal designer Chris Moulder drew inspiration from E. Fay Jones’ Thorncrown Chapel near Eureka Springs, Arkansas, resulting in a structure with a delicate wooden frame, open sides, and extensive glazing. This design fosters a unique ambiance, connecting guests with the beautiful surroundings and man-made pond outside.

The spacious interior allows for flexible configurations and multiple uses. The owners utilize the space as a workout room, as an art studio, and for family gatherings and dinner parties. Sliding barn doors on steel tracks facilitate a pleasant summer breeze and seamless movement between the indoors and outdoors. A double-sided stone fireplace set within a curtain glass wall ensures a cozy atmosphere, while a covered patio with pergola adds additional entertaining space.

Other clients envisioned a modest event venue on their property that could serve as both a guest house and a larger gathering area, suitable for family and friends, both indoors and outdoors. Being from the South, they expressed interest in a traditional dog trot design, which features enclosed areas flanking an open but covered breezeway.

Principal Kurt Dubbe enjoyed designing this new Dog Trot, which is divided into three sections: the left side is a gathering room with a kitchenette for serving guests, the center is an open-air venue, also with a small kitchenette, and the right side is a one-bedroom accessory dwelling unit (ADU). The covered central area provides an excellent space for gatherings, offering protection from sun and wind.

Both of these projects feature functional, adaptable layouts with unique aesthetic charm. The structures allow guests easy access between indoor and outdoor spaces, incorporate natural light and create an expansive feel. The owners frequently use these buildings. STAFF HAPPENINGS

Another wedding! Our project manager, Mackenzie King, married Bradley Sutherland on a beautiful September day at Moose Creek Ranch in Victor, Idaho. We couldn’t be happier for the couple!

While the weather was still warm, our office family had a cookout at Chris and Jolene Moulder’s home. It’s always enjoyable to gather together outside of work.

NEW TEAMMATE!

We are excited to announce that Owen Gilmore has joined the DMA team. Owen graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech, which is also the alma mater of Kurt Dubbe. We believe he is a great fit for Jackson, as he immediately began biking and hiking this fall and joined an ultimate frisbee team. His enthusiasm, computer skills, and collaborative mindset make Owen a  valuable addition to our staff. We are confident that he has a promising professional career ahead.
