PRIVATE RESIDENCE REMODEL AND ADDITION: Jackson Hole, Wyoming

The extensive remodel of this existing 4500 square foot home included the integration a 2000 square foot addition. Two new guest suites, situated in the space above a new garage, were added. A polo practice field and barn, which accommodates the owner’s horses, was also integrated into the design of the property. The most challenging aspect of this project was blending the old logs with the new to create a seamless connection. The new logs were treated with additional pigment, epoxy resin filled the cracks, and finally the logs were stained, using a fine painter’s brush, to match the color of the existing logs. This process concealed any variation between the dissimilar materials.

Interior finishes include exposed log walls, wood floors, stone chimney and hearth, stainless steel kitchen appliances and countertops, cherry and pine cabinets, and stone and tile floors in the bathrooms. The focal point of the living room, the fireplace, was redesigned with quartzite sandstone, which complimented the rock terrace on the far side of the home. "Found" space on the second floor family room utilized the area underneath the slope of the roof to place queen sized sleeping niches with drawers underneath for additional storage. The house also features an open steel, wood staircase suspended in front of a massive stonewall.
