PRIVATE RESIDENCE : Teton County, Wyoming

The design scheme for the residence was based on a modern adaptation of the typical western ranch home. Finishes and material choices echo those made by early inhabitants of the neighborhood -- locally quarried stone, rough-sawn lumber, hand-hewn timbers, and shake roofs that combine to reinforce a feeling of connection with the land. The architect created three distinct zones in the house: the private area of the home includes the master bedroom suite and den, the public part of the home consists of living room, kitchen and dining room, and a guest wing that gives visitors privacy, yet does not need to be accessed by the owners when they are not entertaining.

The stretched out design gives the home the most view opportunities of the Teton Mountains and Sleeping Indian rock formation, and also creates a feeling of spaciousness. Courtyards, patios, and overhangs extend the livability of the house and provide sheltered areas to entertain friends in the midst of the beautiful mountain setting. Architectural details in the new home included square cut tiles on the exterior of the fireplace and garden walls, a stacked stone fireplace, and a cherry veneered barrel vault ceiling in the living room with cove lighting.
