GRANITE RANCH Master Plan: Teton County, Wyoming

Acting as Prime Architect and Land Planner for this project, Dubbe~Moulder Architects was in charge of finding a suitable site to relocate the original JY Ranch cabins from the shore of Phelps Lake, in Grand Teton National Park, to a new location and provide preliminary building layout at the new site. We conducted site surveys on two proposed locations, evaluating the environmental conditions, proximity to original site, and other development concerns. A final 120 acre site near Teton Village in Teton County, Wyoming, was chosen for the relocation of the cabins.

Working with Hershberger Design, the proposed layout concept for the site organizes the primary structures including the Main Lodge, Recreation Hall and Kitchen/Dining cabin as anchors around an informal court area to maximize the most desirable views. Similar to the existing Phelps Lake site, the smaller resident cabins are placed between the primary structures. Modest walking paths connect all cabins. Vehicular access is limited to the access drive, guest parking area and controlled access to the Kitchen/Dining cabin as needed. Appropriate vegetation is introduced to aid in providing visual screening and privacy buffers. Organizational layout of the structures and placement of new vegetation is intended to take advantage of solar exposure and natural ventilation.
